That Chance we don’t want to Miss

Each child should be FREE FROM PERNICIOUS INFLUENCES … which cultivates DESIRABLE TRAITS & ATTRIBUTES. They should be provided with experiences that would STRENGTHEN their CHARACTER as A CHILD.

In the midst of SOCIAL MEDIA REVOLUTION where kids and parents are both challenged to BE RESPONSIBLE “respondents”, WHAT COULD BE OUR PART?

How do we ensure that we provide an ATMOSPHERE OF MORALITY?

What do you think would this image want to tell us?  How do you personally relate to it ?

rights of a child, mistakes of the past, child welfare, parental responsibility, social media,
What should be our part?

  1. The image may look wasted and useless but what I first saw from the old dilapidated trunk of an old tree is a child who is deeply rooted with values.

In the midst of media revolution,, where children are more exposed to the idea that “immorality are given justice”,, the teachers role have become more challenging. The atmosphere of morality is starting to turn vague in the eyes of the children. Nevertheless, the partnership of the parents and teachers can help save these innocent minds.

When the child at his young age becomes deeply rooted with values at home, his notion about morality will not be compromised as he grows old. However, in the absence of the parents’ guidance, the school can make interventions to continue what the child has started to learn from home.

We, as adult are living examples of our children. Whatever they see in our doings become right in their eyes. We may fall short many times but how we manage to stand up to correct our wrongs is more important than falling and never learn from our mistakes.

Like an old trunk of the tree,, we may go through many storms in our life and hurdle several unbelievable devastations but we must keep ourselves rooted deep down a strong ground so we won’t get uprooted no matter how strong the wind howls. If and when we are so, the children who look upon us will continue to admire and emulate us.

    1. 100% AGREE Ma’am Kat! we need to be GROOT — to PROOVE to our “young generation” that they could GROW from their ROOTS — because we can show them what it is to be HUMAN: Vulnerable but can always BREAKTHROUGH. We can always continue STRONG! 🙂

    2. Most of my students say that I am an old fashioned type one, but if good values are old fashioned and if the bible is an old fashioned book then, just like that dilapidated trunk I would remain as is….for I know good values rooted from God’s word, it will never go rotten… in times a young plant will grow from that old trunk to continue giving hope for the young plants around to look up. Those who adhere to bad values will soon be uprooted but those who value high morality of God will inherit the land. Psalms 37:29.

  2. The image reminds me of a “STRONG PERSON”, because despite of the challenges that have been through, the trees is still standing. Just like us, we encounter lots of problem. A problem that sometimes we tend to give up but then we realize that, it is our job. It is our job to teach our pupils. It is our job to impart good values to our pupils.
As a teacher we are responsible for the protection and teach desirable values to our pupils. But of course to be able to teach that desirable traits, we should be the “MODEL” for them. Because it is really hard to teach what we do not have.
Parents has also a big part in nurturing their children good moral values. But sometimes this is not happening because some parent dont really care for their children.
So before its to late, better IMPART GOOD VALUES to our pupils. For them to realize how important it is, in pursuing their dreams.

  3. The trunk symbolizes the old people standing firm with digmity. The young ones are looking and listening to what the older people will tell them. Guiding and teaching them to do things according to the will of God. While young, let them share their blessings to others, let their green colors be an inspiration to those who are loosing hope. Shine young ones! Somedeay like the trunk who had experienced trials and problems, you can say with contentment that life has meaning and worth.

If you look closely at a tree you’ll notice simple a tree and dead trunk hoping that with this condition it still hoping and asking how he can protect the things surround him, asking himself that with this condition how can i help, Are they needed me? or it take it for granted, is there people using me even if they sitting above my trunk, it is like us, teacher na walang ibang iniisip ang kapakanan ng mga studyante, kung pano makuha ang attention nila, eto nga ang sinasabi sa isang seminar namin na dati kapahunan natin tayo mag-aadjust ng teacher, ngayon, kabaligtaran ang teacher na ang mag-adjust sa mga stuyante.,minsan para ayaw ko na pero it makes me a challenge, how we can cope their needs and attention because they are very energetic and smart, as a teacher you have a lot of strategies and techniques, open arm and flexible. Honestly in our daily lesson it is a challenge, aside from the students the curriculum as well..but what we learn is that beauty and imperfection go together wonderfully for teaching.

Thank you for deciding to COPE AND KEEP MOVING ON with that realization that you would never want to miss that chance of a lifetime to keep on adjusting to each of your student’s needs so that soon, your TRUNK would prove worthy afterall 🙂

  5. Yes we are educators, we impart knowledge and mold our young learners into a good citizens but I am deeply sad to those educators who tends to humiliate our young learners. There was one day I witness the scenario of a conversation between a pupil and teacher, the pupil tried to explain the whole happening to his teacher but this teacher never gave him a chance to listen instead saying “Gago ka pala eh!”. Is that the kind of educator that we look up to?… Then I was thinking, whatever good things we imparted to our pupils are useless if they grow up and encounter this kind of teacher.

  7. This devastated trunk image for me is like an old teacher who is dedicated, committed & responsible teacher to her calling, It seems that she had a good hearted to the people & especially to those students who are needy. I picture it out like a scenario of ” honoring the retiree”, the plants that are facing to the trunk are those students whom admire and remember her by giving a thankful ceremony for her hard working.
As a teacher it is our duties to serve others, sabi nga po “The future of the students is in our hands”, Let us teach students with all our heart, let us feel them to be loved and always enlighten their minds with good perspective in life…. Be patience and understand them with all our best…

  8. I would like to compare the image with the saying “You will never Know what will happen next”. Not until you try and try and try…..
Trying in life is never been a hindrance for us not to learn….sabi nga nila try and try until you success and you will never know what life can offer you not unless you try…
As a looked on that image I came into realization that before that tree turned into a “LIFE-LESS” being, before someone called it USELESS, it used to be strong, stable, full of life happy TREE once.
What happened why it turned like this?
Maybe because of the storm, or strong wind or even maybe cause by the people… They were the factors that really affects the tree.. but despite of all this factors, the tree stand still…
    Bakit?
Just like a “CHILD”… When right guidance, plus tender loving care plus respect has been given to the child by his family and the community, this child will grow strong, happy and ready to face the WORLD.

  9. I’ve been thinking about hope lately, and the importance of it in a person’s life.
Sometimes — most of the time — life can seem a bit disappointing. Even the greatest lives are full of profound loss and heartbreak. It seems that pain is inevitable, and while we may say that we know good can come out of it, what hurts still hurts. In the process, one can quite easily lose hope: in life, in God, and even in oneself. Despair is often cyclical, spiraling one into depression and helplessness, leading to even greater despair. The result is that one sad thing leads to another and so on, until we feel that we can’t possibly break free. It can all be a bit too much for our souls to handle.I do not want to miss the opportunity to share Gods loved to other. As humans, we need hope. We can’t live without it. It is the lifeblood to our spiritual survival, and the only thing that pulls us out of the deep trenches of the pain and hurt if life.

  10. Teaching our children moral values is the process by which we help them develop their moral compasses. The morals our children learn as kids will affect how they see the world and behave as adults. While it may seem impossible to explain the importance of honesty or compassion to our children, showing our children how good morals affect others can have a great influence on them. As teacher, it’s our duty to teach morals to students (making ourselves as a good example) to help them become functional adults in society.

No matter how sturdy we are maybe, our time to be fragile and weak will always have its time to overtake the strong us.This image made me think of LIFE. The tree is a representation of a life cycle. It started from the time I was planted, till it became bigger, taller and stronger each day then lastly, just like other beings, it met its end.

In life we make either good or bad decisions. It seems to me that mistakes are part of being human but appreciating our mistakes is a good thing to do for they are precious life lessons. They made us who we are now. This made me remember what my professor in college told me before, “The great mistake we can make in life is to be continually afraid that we will make one.”

From the title itself, iniisip ko talaga on how to connect with it.

    Hmmmm. . .let me think of it. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Sa mahabang pagiisip ko, napagtanto ko rin, na as a teacher, we are like this tree, full of experience; madami ng pinagdaanan, madami ng natutunan, madami ng tiniis, madaming pagsubok na nilagpasan. But still nakatayo pa din. . . BUT. . .

Always make every second a possibility; possibility to inspire not to expire, possibility to love and be loved, possibility to make difference not indifference, possibility to move forward and not backward.

Always remember in school Lesson first before the Test. . .BUT IN LIFE. . .TEST first before the LESSON. Mahirap magsisi sa huli, that’s why, DON’T LOSE YOUR CHANCE. . . 😀

It seems that though almost only the trunk could be the seen part there of a tree, the trunk stood up still, leaves a mark and small plants are looking up around it. Just like as teacher, we should leave a legacy to anyone… whatever it is..it should always come from our heart.:)

We all know that a child is a good imitator,,so we should be a role model to them…Minsan ayaw pa nilang maniwala sa nanay kase sasabihin ng bata,,HINDI GANYAN ANG TURO NI TEACHER…nangangahulugan lang na napakalaking impluwensiya ng guro sa mga bata……

  16. THAT CHANCE WE DON’T WANT TO MISS
Are you having fun playing games using your tablet, or enjoying watching funny videos using your iPod? It seems everything is fine, but be careful and keen. Your chance to develop your child character is missing.
Every time I gather the parents of my pupils, I always remind them to stand as parent. Parent who show the goodness of everything. And to stand as their child’s model of good character. I usually discuss the importance of time given to the young. Parental guidance plays a big part in molding the character of a child. Unfortunately, we can’t please all parents to follow our advocacy. So, that’s our turn teachers to give a hand to our students. Show our care.
I believe people are born naturally good, its just that we are surrounded of all the undesirable traits. Whatever means it is, HINDI PA HULI ANG LAHAT. We want to have a responsible, honest, industrious, loyal, modest, obedient, talented, and loving students. I think its not impossible to have these kind of pupils. All they need is a responsible, honest, industrious, loyal, modest, obedient, talented, and loving teacher.(AJAH NANG AJAH TEACHERS:)

  17. I am not perfect.
    Never have been.
    And never will be.

This quote have caught my attention the very first time I have seen it. And it does make sense. Nobody is perfect. Everyone is bound to experience failure every now and then. Those experience will help us to be tougher and stronger. Yes, we feel frustrated when we fail – I feel it too sometimes – but we should not forget that imperfections gives more room for improvement. Being perfect gives you nothing to change.

It’s like when you get 80/100 test. You can still study and improve yourself in taking the test. But if you get 100/100, what will you do next? Nothing. And doing nothing is not a good sign of improving your life.

As a teacher we are facing different individuals. We really have a big part in their holistic development most especially now that the new generation is exposed to social media, computer games etc. that may cause distractions in their learnings and personalities. Our role as a teacher aside from imparting knowledge is to teach our students values. As a second mother we must listen to their problems with full of understanding. We must encourage them whenever they tend to lose hope.We must help them to become a better person.Of course we need also the cooperation and support of our parents although sometimes parents are working and they dont have time for their children. The more that our students need us. I may not be perfect but I want my students remember that once in their life I inspire them and I made good memories in them.I know God will always be there for me.

  20. The CHANCE that we want to MISS!
“We play to learn”. Playing is giving us the chance to loose or win. In life we face different challenges that might make us fall. But the best of it we learn to stand with courage. Standing with God teaching that we need to fall because he wants us to recognize him. To remember that we need to encounter obstacles because we need share something to influence others. To become a helping hand to our students who needs help. To be the guiding light to those students who loose hope. To be the guiding star to those students who dream success despite all the challenges they have in life.
Appreciating the desirable traits of our students strengthen their characters that will build them in the future. We all know that we are block with different issues like immorality. So, what is the major cause of it? Media, internet addiction and environment. They spend a lot of time taking social media because we lack time for them. They love browsing to the net because it gives them relaxation that we cannot give because we lack time for them. What we show them is what they will adopt. So, the challenge for us is do to our part. To become a role model to whatever we wanted our students to be in the future. The most valuable thing that we can do is doing our part. To give chance to change things that we can while we can. How many times we fall is not the issue but how we change ourselves after persevering to be that someone who make Chance for others to shine!

A time has come that the useless, unfruitful and old tree has to be cut down to give space for a new breed of seed/trees..So we DON’T have to miss any CHANCES to be more productive and useful for other as long as we’re still young and healthy..
