The Invisible Essential

Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education.
ECE 111. Early Childhood Curriculum
Shall you have all the opportunity to CRAFT a Curriculum for the young generation, what would you be willing to GIVE?

It takes a happy heart to build a well-founded school
for our future generation.

The way we look at things are affected by the way we feel! …  Would you believe so?
‘Wanna try if such contention could be true?
didache, life is like a box of chocolates, i care, candle-light, exhaust system
What catches your attention first would determine how you feel at the moment!

Take a look at this picture … what then did you first see?; what element captured your attention at your first glance? … and doing some self-check of how you feel, what does your choice indicate?

Sometimes, we just can’t find enough motivation to find a spot for whatever emotion there is deep within us — thus, we need to identify: are we filled or drained? happy or sad? up or down? inspired or tired?
We may need to look around and find some sure identification of our state of emotion. Why? … because the way we feel would always affect the way we deal with others.  Our perspectives would more often than not be influenced by the kind of feeling that we have — and on the other hand, our emotion would moreso determine up to what extent we would work on the fulfilment of our Philosophy, Vision and Mission.
At a quite dangerous side, our undefined emotions may stagnate our supposedly  healthy perception of each child — to the point that we may misinterpret what we just see instead of appreciate and look into what we do not see.
What then is there to realize for us to be able to give the best that we could?
What then should we do to build a well-founded school for our future generation?

  1. What is there to realize to be able to give the best that I could?

I first saw the 3 elevated candles among the others. As candles symbolize LIGHT, I see myself as the bearer of light. The empty basket is like an empty child that needs to be filled with KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and VALUES that he need to cope up with LIFE. All the other things surrounding the basket and the candles are like the children who are so different in many ways yet as the bearer of light, I have the soul obligation to help them find their purpose, enlighten their minds and touch their lives.

  2. The first thing that goes in my mind when I saw this, It denotes the classroom situation. The candle represent as the teacher, and the things surrounds serves as the pupil/ students. The role of the teacher is to enlighten the mind of every individual. Different things that surrounds the candle serves the differences of every pupil, so we teacher must adjust on how in dealing with their behavior and their needs. Its our responsibility to provide their leanings.

First and foremost our Almighty God is the invisible essential, without Him we are nothing…God is love, love is God. In which can interlink by way of crafting our curriculum.
Yes I believe so… that the ways we look at things are affected by the way we feel. To be effective and affective developer must guard our heart. A pure heart is delivered from misdeed, power by God grace. As we are given the opportunity to craft a curriculum for the young generation must be willing to give our “Heart”.

The things I captured my attention are the three elevated candles and the window..It signifies light to enlighten my mind and be open-minded to all, especially to our children with individual differences. Despite with all the trials and problems come into our lives, there is still a time for us to breathe. God is always on our side to guide us in everything we do

  5. Thought at the invisible essential at first when I look at the picture the candle catch my eyes. The candles represents as the stakeholders like teacher, parents and the tallest one is God. The picture is just like a classroom and the empty basket, didache, tissue, tissue holder, coke, chocnuts and bottles are the students. Each students are unique and different from one another. As a teacher we are responsible for their future life. We teach each child to learn in different ways, we touch their lives and their heart to be a responsible and good person in their adult life. Well inside the classroom there is a stress and it cause a lot of things it can be stress for a child to learn from the teacher etc… there is a window in the picture where we can breathe if we are exhausted from every stress that we encounter in our daily life. Now after we made deep breathe it clears our mind to do the right thing or to deal with a child that needs our help and we do it with God guidance and love.

The first thing that caught my attention was basket. I believe that we’re like an empty basket at first but when we explore, see things around us and have fun we will be knowledgeable and be more wiser in life. The kids mind as a theorist said is like an empty vessel through her/his experience will grow as a great person. The 3 candles for me symbolize light, knowledge and guidance from our creator God. When there’s no light we will never see the beauty around us.

  7. When I look at the picture the first thing that catches my eyes was the things are scattered. The book was not in the proper place and also there was an empty basket. And it reminds me the classroom situation that sometimes the pupils are not in their proper places. So, we as a teacher the one who facilitate them need to guide them to become a better citizen.

  8. At first glance, what catches my attention is the 3 stands each having a candle on top and being surrounded by a mess. The stands symbolize the level of learners: the slow (being the shortest), the average (the middle size), and the advance (the tallest one). The candles are the goal. They have the same goal but the way to achieve it is affected by the things around them.
    – The shortest stand is the one nearest to the things which I believe the reason why he/she cannot concentrate on achieving the goal and stuck up on his present situation. He characterized as friendly (surrounded by things), jolly (dairy milk), a faith believer (didache), but a strong force prevents him to keep moving (the basket).
    – The medium stand is slightly away from the temptations and striving to achieve his goal with minimal challenges.
    – The tallest one is far from the disturbances. Obviously, he succeeds in achieving his goal without worrying the external barrier around him. He characterized as self-directed, independent, ambitious, and introvert. After all the effort and sacrifices by not involving into material things, a breath of fresh air awaits him/her (near to the window).

But what excites me much is when the shortest stand able to reach his goal. It must be a magnificent triumph of his life.

    The moral lessons are:
“If you have goals in life, as much as possible stay away from the destruction and exert all your time and effort in achieving it”. – Tallest stand

“Success is the sweetest thing if your road to achieve it is full of challenges” – Shortest stand

The stand with a candle symbolize a light, life and hope of a child. The book represent a book of knowledge where a child can learn many things.

  12. Children are not things to be moulded but people to be unfolded. As I look the picture, I firstly notice the three candles and the empty basket. The first candle symbolize the teacher in the elementary years, the middle candle represents the teacher in the secondary years and the candle above symbolizes the teacher in the college years. The empty basket symbolizes the child. The candle becomes the light of the child to be able to follow the right path to become successful. The things around the empty baskets symbolizes the knowledge that he/she gain and the challenges that he/she may face in order to become a successful one.

The tissue to cry out if things around stresses me out or unloading what is inside me. And the candles are for my students they are the next generation which will be the light to this world. It takes a happy heart for us to be able to give what is best for these young generation preparing them in life’s situation in the future.

The basket caught first my attention because it is nearly fell tothe the floor, this symbolizes a child that needs urgent attention to fix or help. Those messy things around are the children we are going to help and teach. When we enter this room we must first sit and relax. Pray to God what must we do fix all those things in order. The mission of a teacher is to make all things organize inside the classroom.

    A Hopeful Heart
    by Rhodora B. Villanueva

Oh what busy lives we lead
Tending to our and loved ones need
    Sometimes we forget what deed
    What we’ll do and heed

    Let us remind ourselves
When we wake up in our bed
To thank God for another day
As the sunshine kisses our head

    Let us also not forget
    The people in our stead
Who are always there for us
    An acquaintance or a friend

And when my load is heavy
I will find a place to be
There on top of the mountain
Or a place to pray to thee.

The first time I saw the picture the specific object that caught my attention are the chocolates, I loeating chocolates especially when I feel so tired and busy. It serve as my stress reliver. The second thing that caught my sight are the three candles over each stand. Each of the stand has its own size and height, it reminds me what and how life really is. They are like the ladder of my life and those candles are the oppurtunities that awaits me in every step I made while reaching the top of the ladder. I also notice that at the side of the stands there is a box of tissue, its like these are the people who serve as my crying shoulder like my family, relatives and friends who are always there to love and supports me what ever happen or whatever life will bring. Life is full of important and unecessary things, It depends on a person how he will going to appreciate the things around him. When it comes to childs life, each of the child is so innocent in this world and they dont know yet how to appreciate everything around him, we as their teachers will serve as their guiding candle to know life more and what path they must take to be a well develop person someday. The best thing that we can give for our students is a quality education to assure their success in the further future.

In my first glance at the photo, the first thing captured my attention is the book. The book that may reflects my determination and eagerness to study, to learn, to improve and to achieve personal and professional growth. In this picture I have noticed the disorganize arrangement of objects and behind them is the organize one. I can say that they are disorganized because they are not placed where they should be based on their functions. Someone should be vigilant and sensitive enough to feel where the right place these things should be. Just like learners, they have different potentials that should be developed and enhance to be placed them where they could be. The teachers should be creative and wise enough to discover the intellectual composition of each learner and bring out the natural goodness of them despite the disruptive and inappropriate behavior they have shown in the classroom. That is why it is true the famous lines that “It takes a big heart to shape little minds”. I also observed the organized objects properly placed in the cabinet and group together in a certain corner which symbolize the unseen righteousness that the learners possessed. As you can see organized objects have smaller part in this photo unlike the disorganized one that covers most of the page. Sometimes teachers give so much attention to the unlikeable behavior or negative things made by the learners and taken for granted the good one they performed. Thus, in order to build well founded school for the future generation, teachers should be served and teach with SMILE- Serve with Meaning In Lifelong Education.

  19. Honestly, I was deceived by way it was captured. Why? Because the things at the back was a bit further from the pictures at the front. Putting all things together in one place is easier to find than one which is spread out. But in the pictures, she chose to put the things a bit further at the front so we could see first what’s the visible pictures. As far as I remember, the given comments from my classmates was coming at the front pictures, to mention of the three examples, candles, didache, and empty baskets. meaning to say, our focused was all in the visible pictures, because its visible and easy to find, while all are busy looking for the thing that was not mentioned, sometimes we forgot what is the most essential part.
Giving my own interpretation about the pictures, all pictures has its own use and purpose, and all these pictures represents the child’s own uniqueness, that each child has different abilities, interest and needs. And we, as teachers, as the candle, to light their way towards success.
Just like making a curriculum, let us look into deepness of the child so we cannot be deceived from what you can only see from the physical.

  20. After seeing that picture, the three elevated candles really caught my attention. It symbolizes God, a holy one and the messy things around it were the people. It connotes that God really exist through instruments. He is really beside us, willing to help us, to enlighten us especially when we were in the midst of danger. He is willing to fix ourselves into a better one. Likewise the teacher, we are responsible to mold our students to become a well-rounded individuals. We imparted our knowledge to them because it is our profession to create professionals.

  21. As I pictured out this image the first thing that I’ve notice are the candles which for me represents the learners the future leaders why?! It because it has different levels which as I figure it as beginner, the learners, and lastly the future leaders, it elevated because each level consist of learnings which they already accomplished. I’ve got interested with the book which contains all the knowledge and school needed by the learners and as well as the teachers. The teachers represents the tissue “I care” they wipes the tears of the child who has a problem and always listen wants their inside. A basket represents as a school which is empty I mean a school which is just starting and as the times goes by it fills with all wisdoms, achievements and product of successful learners. The windows represents as the openness of the school the EFA (Education for All). The waters represent the smooth flow of the operation of the school with clear intentions and sustain the cleanliness of the school. The Hanny /Choknut chocolates represents the rewards or the plague of recognition of the school while the dairy milk chocolates represents as the award for the distinction of the school. The violet ribbon represents as another achievement for the school which is serves as an inspiration to the teacher and pupils.

  22. First that I noticed is that, things are unorganized; different items are scattered around which needs to be arranged and put in their right places. If I were inside that room I don’t know where to start, maybe I will get that didache book first and read a few and I’m sure I will be able clear my mind and get something meaningful from it. I can compare it to a classroom full of children with different individuality. They need to be taught and guided by the teachers for them to become good individuals. I also noticed the word “I care”below. We teacher should feel it toward our pupils so that they will be motivated and inspired to do good things.

When I looked at the picture, the first thing that captured my attention is the candle. The candle represent as Light. The second one is the book. The book represent knowledge. The third one is the empty basket. The empty basket represent the children in the classroom.
As a classroom teacher, we are the guiding light to our pupils that intrusted in our care. We have to teach them in our best ability so they would gain all the knowledge they need to prepare for life.
All the messy things surrounded in that pictures represent all the challenges in life. As a teacher its up to us how to make things in order. One thing in life is our positive outlook in life. It wont matter how stressful the situation is, by looking at the window and take deep a breath and be stress free. By God’s grace, we would be able to teach, touch lives as our mission being a teacher.

  24. As I saw the picture, I conclude that the person is dealing to a problem because of the reflection of the images it seems to unorganized things, In relation to our work it says that the idea implies are not organized, maybe a person is confused to the things surround him. And from this, I can say that it can affect to the learning situation of a child in connection to crafting a curriculum or building a school as aiming to become an owner someday those unorganized things signifies the problems that we will be able to encounter, through this situation we will be able to prioritize and give the best that we could to build a strong foundation for future generation. The picture presented by Ma’am Gail represents for some of the elements to consider in making or to come up with a strong foundation of early childhood education. The major things that caught my attention was first when I saw the candle, because as we all know candle gives light to be able to lead us in a bright/ right way same as teacher our role and responsibilities is to enlightened the mind of our pupils not only that but the most important is to touch their heart to be able to instill a sense of comfort and lifelong love of learning and from this experiences it will forever stay in the lives of children as well as the teacher. Second the basket which signifies to a child in which a child is like an empty basket that waiting to filled it just like our pupils, so we as teacher are the one who is responsible to mould each child holistically by teaching them straight from our heart because our attachment is very much important to them. Third was the other different things/pictures/images which also signifies to the individual differences of our pupils just to test our dedication and how committed we are in line to our teaching profession and the most important is to really discover the potential of every child through seen and unseen scenario. Last was the invisible window which symbolize freedom where light, air, sounds, knowledge, objects etc., may pass through, coming and going in which we can breathe by this, in times when we feel tired, stress or if we are in a problem situation we made a deep breath to release our bad feelings just like also to our almighty God who is invisible essential but serve us our strength to overcome those obstacle that we experience. We can feel him through his guidance and blessings that we received and for the happiest moment that we experienced in our daily living. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

If we know that we are condemned as criminals we will feel fear and perhaps trying to do something to make us forgiven. A man with a right knowledge of God will love and serve God thankfully. Right thinking will lead to a right feelings and actions. Wrong thinking will lead to a wrong feelings and actions. For me the basis of logical, sensible, reasonable thinking is the Bible. I will base my perspective in the word of God, the Bible.

“What then is there to realize for us to be able to give the best that we could?”

I believe that God is the one who controls everything, He makes all things to happen whether it is good or evil. If God gave me a work to do, whatever it is, I will do it gladly and diligently because he commanded me to do it with all my might and knowing that obedience to God is a privilege.

“What then should we do to build a well-founded school for our future generation?”

I will do my best to give them the prescribed standards of the government for our education and impart the Biblical Philosophy as a the guiding principles of the learners’ life.

The candles gives us light, the light keep us warm. The warmth of God’s love and light leads our way to the correct path. If you are physically thirst you open the can of soft drink but if you are spiritual thirsty you open the Didache, the scriptures will quench your thirst. Every time we feel blue take a bite of sweet treat like the chocnut. Chocolate makes everything better. The three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love and something to hope for.
    • Something to do, build a great foundation for our future generation
    • Something to love, Teacher’s love and devotion will steer the direction to shape an excellent citizen of the country.
    • Something to hope for, we hope for a better opportunity for our student.

  27. Seeing the things in picture unorganized, I do like to put them in the right place. When the surroundings seem chaotic, most of the time, this added to feeling of burden heaviness.

In times we feel our work tiresome and stressful, pause and have a break. We need a healthy mind and emotion to continue to our work.. Things will turn to ruin if we cant give to ourselves a rest-importantly rest in God. Try to cry things to the Lord-lay them all to Him – knowing He cares and He is mighty.

A person who is exhausted, usually experiencing lapses in memory– becoming forgetful and there’s flesh shaking which resulted to sickness. Our body clock do tells us when to stop and have rest. Sometimes pampering oneself will help in times like this. Go to mall. Go out of town. See a movie. Talk to someone. Eat what you like. Have a long sleep. Motivate oneself to continue to be productive.

In establishing a school, offer a curriculum that is holistic. Learning is not just within the four corners of the classroom, Motivate the school children. Have different activities for the whole year that will be enjoyed by them and at the same time learn things – learnings that will last.

I am a person who hates unorganized things or place, and looking at that place in such chaos and looks as though a tornado had struck makes me feel something choatic deep within. For me, I would like to relate the picture to a person who has built up inside with everything , stabbed and burned with pains, failures, rejections, pressures and problems in life and don’t know what, where and when to start putting things in order. In life, we must know our priorities. little by little, step by step believing that we can do it, and surrendering everything to God. In His perfect time everything will be alright .Life is too short to stress our self with the things which don’t deserve to be an issue in your life. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. No matter how busy we are, we should take time for our self. Relax, Reconnect, Recharge. – We are not being selfish, we need the time to focus to our own well-being. After all, if we are not healthy, how can we take care of anything and anyone else?

Most importantly, the candles also caught my attention, signifies the faith I have in God as a guiding light as we travel our journey in life.

In the perspective of teaching, It is ” taking heart” the courage to explore one’s ignorance. Taking, and making things into the right path.

Actually when I first look at the picture it was unorganized there are a lot of things to see so I thought that these things symbolizes something so I thought that the 3 elevated candles are GOD,FAMILY and TEACHER who are the most important on the lives of children. The empty basket on the floor is the child and all the other things such as book, chocolate, coke, matches ,tissue paper with I care etc. are things that the child needs for his/her holistic development. These are just what’s visible in my eye but I realized that I wasn’t able to see the invisible essential which is the exhaust fan which symbolizes that when we are pre-occupied to a lot of things we need to breathe out.
For me, I find that being centered, being calm, helps me see more clearly with my heart.
The more hectic my day, the harder I find it is to see with my heart. The more cranky I am, the more aggravated or angry I am, the more stressed I am, the harder it is to see with my heart. Once I realized that my state of mind did seriously impact my ability to see with my heart, I have been trying to maintain a more even keel. I try to stay as centered as I possibly can, and use a variety of techniques in my attempts. Success varies, but I like to think I’m getting better.
We know emotion is important in education—it drives attention, which in turn drives learning and memory. But because we don’t fully understand our emotional system, we don’t know exactly how to regulate it in school, beyond defining too much or too little emotion as misbehavior. We have rarely incorporated emotion comfortably into the curriculum and classroom. Further, our profession hasn’t fully addressed the important relationship between a stimulating and emotionally positive classroom experience and the overall health of both students and staff.
