What’s your “Missing Link”?

“The only thing worse than being blind

is having sight but has no vision!” — Hellen Keller

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s determination to see what was there in the past that would pave way to something certain in the future.

Man would hope to head towards a certain direction.  Naturally, we would tend to feel that we’ve already exerted a lot of effort; we would tend to engage; and persist; and trigger on certain goals — only to find out that we’re doing things the wrong way because there are a lot  that we do not see; nor notice; nor consider.

What then should we do for us to clearly see “the WHO that we are now”?

What is it that we are possibly depriving ourselves from which block our sight to clearer vision?

Whose story “affects” your sense of direction?

What is that vision that you have gaze at?

  1. Besides the philosophies that come from the social reconstructionism of montessori and waldorf, the story that has long since inspired me to pursue teaching will be that of DON BOSCO-the Father and Teacher of the young. Even if he was from Turin, Italy and it has been centuries since he walked the earth, his lessons will still be the mark of my story as a teacher. He believed that every young person has a seed of goodness in them and it is us-as educators to water and nourish that plant so that the evil of the world will not corrupt it. when I saw a film about his life, I did not identify myself with the teachers rather I was able to identify myself with the students that he had–unruly, broke, lost. And looking at those students, I remembered how lost I was, how broken I was and how I long to have someone like Don Bosco to rescue me from the darkness of the life I have lived. Then and there, I knew that I will be a teacher, I will be the grown up that I was looking for when I was younger. I will be like Don Bosco. I may have strayed from my teaching career but my goal does not waver-I will be a guide, I will be a TEACHER.

  2. I guess everyone of us has a deep longing to understand our true identity being citizens of our beloved country. Indeed we can say we are Filipinos, from our passport down to the last inch of our physical features. However, true identity of who we are must go beyond the above mentioned if not trivial qualifications, in screening our profound and strong ties to our Filipino origin. Nowadays, we rarely see or hear Filipinos using our own native tongue without inserting foreign language to express even a simple thought. Things that we use, how we dress up or even how we think are mostly influenced by what we’ve read, seen and heard from media, which by far is entirely patterned from westernized or best known an as” the first world countries. ” I understand that change is enviable but it is also important to become aware of what we are changing ourselves into. The values and traditions that our great ancestors have passed down to us is now heading for extinction as we now continue to depend or find solutions and answers to our questions from foreign ideals and beliefs. Instead of sorting it out among ourselves as a nation. When we forget and lose these inherited values ( solidarity, unity, God natured being just to name a few), we deprive our selves of soveriegnity, freedom, versatility and economic prosperity. Our rich culture and history as a nation clearly has a strong impact to where we are right now. If we have identified what we have missed in the past but continously ignore it’s relevance as we shape the future of our nation, then we are blindfolding ourselves the direction we hope to achieve. Thus, our journey becomes bleak, desolate and difficult

Gods give us perfect eyes to see what is the importance of life here in this world.Man use and practice it in daily life.Life has certain proportion to one”s determination to see what is the past that we make something important to the future.Man also has purpose in life to engage in everything, to do way in life and to use things that they must satisfied, only to find out that everything has nothing.Past is important we could see clearly where does history begins and when does it ends.Teachers think this question.we,should practice peace, unity, love and independence to obtain our vision. If their is vision, their is direction. The ideals and beliefs of the Greek Philosophical thinkers of the world affects our educational system. My end goal as a Teacher, that history is important because it binds us,gives idea of what is happening in past and in future life and gives us strong impact that everyone should be one…by NAY LOQUIAS..

  4. I am an Essentialism person and as a teacher also. As a person because I learned a lot through my experiences in life. I will not believe something until I experienced it. What is real and existing is that what I believe. As a teacher, I observed that my kids will learn more if they are the ones who experienced it. The more they can remember and store in their memory by witnessing or experiencing that lesson.
This Essentialism is more applicable in Science subject. I let my pupils see a real plant or tree inside our premises to see for themselves the parts of a plant, how it looks like in real, to show where that part is located and to enjoy. It is when they experienced how and where it is that the more they will understand the lesson.

  5. Know our purpose in life.
Freedom, we should start living out of our comfort zone.
My professors inspire me to pursue my chosen path. I admire their passion in teaching. The success of their students is their priority. Influencing the learners would be their achievement. My children also motivate me to continue reaching my goals in life. My life won’t stop by being a mother; I will be part of the life of other children.
My vision would always be achieving my purpose in life and that is to be an educator. Educators who educate not just teach but someone who influences others life and make a good difference.

  6. I believe in the philosophy of pragmatism by John Dewey; a philosophy that geared to human needs. In education and as an educator, the basis of all teaching should be in the activity of the child/student. The child/student must get real experiences to act and behave according to his interests, aptitudes and capacities. Education will be worthless if the child/student won’t be able to make use of it in the real world. 😊

  8. Us, people of this fallen world are so fast and always running after time, competing, doing globalization, earning for living, etc.. We have so many things in mind, so many to-do lists, and so many insights but the problem is, we forgot the real purpose of what we are doing. Maybe, your mind is saying, you have the purpose but the truth is there is NONE at all. You are just going on with the flow. We forgot that we MUST know how to prioritize things things, seek the beauty of it, loving it, for us to see the clearer vision and purpose of life. Life is Light and Beautiful
God said in Matthew 6:34; “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” God knows everything, from beginning to the end. He knows what happened in our History and He didn’t need to predict on it because He is the Stroy Maker of each one of our lives. You maybe doing your plan in life but God’s plan is the best plan of all the plan you can ever think of.

My vision as a young educator; to engage, to equip, to empower, to have heart and to CHANGE the next generation of this nation through the will of the Lord, Jesus. ❤

  9. I’m in the concept of Existentialism that the concept of object are being actual, and existing. I believe the subject is depending on one’s perception and the knowledge is a personal choice. It depends on the individual itself he acquire the knowledge or learnings that he can get around him.

  10. It is important to know the past if not on everything at least to those things that matters to you most. From there, we can see clearly where it came from or where it was rooted. As an Educator, it is important for us to know the roots of what we are teaching so that we will have direction on what we are doing in our every teaching days. We should have a clear insight of what we want to produce out of or pupils. With a clear vision now we can think of a strategic planning in order to meet our vision in the future. Our vision on something serves as our direction to become successful in the future. We should exert an effort to achieve our vision experience things that will help us to grow professionally. PROGRESSIVISM is my -ism-, i believe that the student can learn more through practice or application of what they learn or their knowledge on their lesson. As Joel Beker said, “Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world”.

  11. What then should we do for us to clearly see “the WHO that we are now”?
This question is significant for all of us, it is a reminder and a reflection as well for us to fully know and understand what we really are today. If we are making the right decisions and the right thing to do. Upon reading this question, I have remembered my first experience in teaching wherein it was really a burnout to me. I have realized that not all the lessons that we got from books is not enough to handle a class or to make you a good teacher. There comes the unnecessary behavior of your students. Anyway, learning from that experience and from all the mistakes makes me a better teacher a better person rather. Accepting your mistakes from the past and reflecting what
is your purpose in life makes you see the WHO that we are now.
Different situations and problems in our family, career and society somehow deprive us from moving forward to our goals and purpose in life but with our faith and hope in God we can overcome all those problems.
I look forward to adapt the 21st century teacher because students nowadays are born in this computer age period. I gazed at my own story from my struggles to finish my studies up to now that I’m having my own students that need to be inspired though I know that I still need more experience and learning. Let’s just be all willing to be an instrument of learning.

  12. Our life is a journey with constant battles for survival. 99% of the species that ever existed since the dawn of time are now extinct, We are the remaining 1% among with other organisms. So how come we are part of the success story of not being eliminated in the natural selection? The answer lies within our VISION.

Our ancestors used their vision extensively as a guide in traversing through their lives. It helped them evade predators and use tools, making them successful in getting what they want or their goal. It is not different from the first humans who walked on earth and the contemporary people. We use vision to see opportunities before it becomes obvious, giving us a leverage in life. But at the rise of technology, we tend to lose vision not because we lost our eyes, but because we have so many distractions, we tend to look on many things and lose sight of what is really essential and in return, we become exhausted and fail achieving our goal.

I therefore conclude that, in achieving our goals, we keep a strong vision of it and avoid being distracted so that our energy and effort will only be placed towards attaining our objective and not on other unnecessary things. We should have an eye of an owl whose vision extends in all directions, far and wide but never failing to see itself.

    1. Existentialism is a philosophical movement which emphasizes on individual existence, freedom and choice. Existentialism states that man exists and in that existence man defines himself and the world on his own subjectivity, and wanders between choice, freedom and existential angst. Freedom is a state of mind. Think free. Be free.

Becoming a being. We are what we become. Human existence is a project in which past and present are subordinate to future, is the main residence of our existence. Human existence cannot have a relationship with being unless it remains in the midst of nothingness. Our past can lead or help us to become strong in any difficulties or trials that we might encounter in the future.

Our view of the world is enough to become Truth, because it is based on our fact. What we do with this truth depends on our good or bad faith. that is. the ability to act as if in our act the entire mankind would be represented. We always have a choice. We choose, and in choosing we define ourselves. Choice is all that we have, without confirmation of our act; we never know what is right to choose. The doubt of our acts, together with the contingency of existence leads to Angst. We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make our world. In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.

For us too see clearly of the Who that we are now, we should also look back on our past, everything that we our enjoying now, is something that we have to be thankful to people in the past who fought hard and even dedicate their lives for it..I believe that our role now is to continue what they have started,as an educator we can do it by being commitment and dedicated to our job and do our role as a shaper of our future generation.

  16. “The only thing worse than being blind
is having sight but has no vision!” — Hellen Keller

I would assume there is an emotional context to this, but it is not the only context. Some may see it as a saying that being blind is better than being a fool that can see. More often than not, most of us tend to settle for less. Saying there’s a difference between “I can” and “I will” is another story too.

Setting up a target to success is a common sense but we shouldn’t just stop in setting up a goal in life. We need to define it although it may define our limitations as well. People need to demonstrated traits like single mindedness, focus, and total commitment. Easier said, yes. But with enough will and confidence, nothing is impossible.

  17. All of us have different stories to tell about our lives. Most are sad stories but there are always some happy stories we can share. Despite many struggles in life, we should always have an open heart and mind to see the beauty it has to offer. Most of the time, we dwell so much on the negative things that’s why we can’t see the better side of the story. In this case, we need to wake up. We need to go to our senses. We just have one life to live so why not make the most out of it. Should there be problems, deal with it accordingly. Should there be reasons to be upset or unhappy, let it pass by and without us knowing, we’re back to being happy.

There maybe cases that life is unfair, that’s reality and we just have to face it with courage and determination that after some time, it will be fair and bring us where the Lord wants us to be, somewhere we never thought of, to a place far better than we are planning to be.

    1. No need to use our eyes in order to have a vision. If you don’t really have any future beyond surviving this day, there would be a lack of vision in your life. You may have mission but that’s about it. For those with some dream, aspirations for plans for the future, you have already applied it to your life, even it by chance.

is having sight but has no vision!” — Hellen Keller
Each and everyone of us has their dream in life to fulfill but in order for this dream to become true we must have to work for it to become reality. As they say sight is a function of the eyes, and allows us to see. This is something a blind person doesn’t have, but the rest of us have. Vision, on the other hand, is in the mind or the mind’s eye. It is a proactive portion of our imagination, and helps us plan and think. In life, in everything we do there must be a purpose like in teaching we must have our vision to our students the creativity, innovation, and a desire to challenge the status quo, both in what and how we teach in order for them to understand further and in the intellectual ambitions of the School itself and mission preparing students to understand what they are doing, contribute to, and succeed in a rapidly changing society, and thus make the world a better place and say that you accomplished and succeeded.

I believe that learner must adopt to each other and to their environment in order for them to learn. In pragmatism, the role of the teacher is only a facilitator, let the pupils apply their knowledge to real situation through experimental inquiry.

  23. In the pursuit of quality education, the Deped underwent several changes in educational system to address certain related discrepancy particularly in the curriculum-based instruction. Different Deped programs were launched nation-wide such as training, seminars and workshops for teachers. These programs aim to upgrade teachers professionally and be able to adapt readily on the changes made. These strategies done by the DepEd is deemed necessary inasmuch as we are accountable for efficient and effective attainment of the specified learning objectives in pursuance of national development goals within the limits of available school resources. As teacher, i am thankful enough for this abrupt implementation of new curriculum-k to 12 program. Although, the sudden change brought out so much changes for all of us. In a positive point of view, sacrifices we’ve been through to make each student perform better in class is contributory to the overall progress every child is making which lead to increasing achievement and quality education. Furthermore, the past curriculum is otherwise significant on what we’ve right now. Indeed, the pass serves as strong foundation, clues, and basis for such changes towards the betterment of our educational system. In the long run, what we need is to refocus, apply our gained knowledge and skills on our mission as we continue to inspire our students to become 21st century learners. Remember we’ve empowered to make difference in the lives of our students.

  24. As God made us, He didn’t made us perfect. As a child, we always do what we think is right. We play just play outside as long as we want to and get mad when our parents called us to go home. But as we grow older, we tend to look back on the things we did. We realized our mistakes. Sometimes we only use our eyes and our feelings to see what is in front of us, but if we also need to use our mind to think if its right, and the question “what will happen if i do this or that?”, as a teacher, we want our pupils to understand what we teach, but we do not understand their needs and their own ways to understand the lesson.
Kids now are different. They have their own ways to understand things. So let us try to put our feet on their shoes, so we can understand them.

Who that we are now will have an impact to the future, what we do now will affect other people, what are decision is will affect our lives. Our decision is base on the people around us, base on the situation that we encounter. As a teacher our sense of direction to the students is base on them, we vision them what will happen to their future, we tell them the important of doing what is right, we let them think and as a teacher we are here to guide them.

Their opinion even others are talking and saying their opinion we just ignore them and at the back of our mind saying its “non-sense”. Sometimes the problem is “you” yourself. It is my own story who affects my sense of direction because I’ve been through a lot of pain I have encounter to much problem for my young age. But then I learned to survive l learn to move on and i learn to let go and also to ignore people who never sees anything good in you. But I learned to understand and accept others opinion.
