“You are the Motivation” that You Need!

What could there be and what could be missing in either conditions?   “Para kanino ka ba bumabangon”? — sheryfuncion                          What could have Steven Covey meant when he said  “There are three constants in life: change, choice, principles.”? … and what does this image depict in relation to Learning & Motivation?

Beyond Teaching: Change, Choice & Principles

Come to think of it, there are times when intrinsically or extrinsically, we may rarely find such “urge” to do the right thing — but because we want to do our social responsibility,  what then could be that “urge” and why do we need to find it?

What is it that we really need to have for us to be able to give?

education, learning, motivation, school, transfer of learning.
What is it that we need to have?

  1. My oh my, this got me thinking. Para kanino ba ako bumabangon? Or, ano ba ang dahilan bakit ako bumabangon? I asked these two things myself many times. And frankly, I do it for different reasons. For family, for a job, for career, for money, for friends, for someone special, for my students or for other people. Today, it could be one reason; tomorrow, it could be two; the next day, it could be a few; or the following day, it could be all of these things. I’ve always thought, by giving these importance, it would bring me gratification and fulfillment. But, as I grow old and mature, I realized it isn’t so. May kulang! Then I found out. I should be getting up more to serve God. Colossians 3:17 (NIV) “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him”. This is the “change, the choice and the principle” that I try to adhere. Yes, it is difficult. There are a lot of challenges and ever present needs. For example, in teaching. Sometimes, I’m guilty of doing my job for money, promotion and recognition. It’s a social thing. However, I have learned to do the right thing. And that is to teach in the service of God, not for my own benefit. So, what do I need to have to be able to give? I have learned that I cannot give my students the motivation and inspiration if I cannot find my own reason to be motivated and inspired. A teacher rely on his/her inner “strength” to accomplish his/her role in learning.

      1. “Push yourself to a task you dont feel like doing and it’s as if you’ve been working against a wall which you can never push no matter what! ” ~It was really true, I personally dont like teaching because i hate writing even when I was a kid i hate teachers who keep me do writings, but because of poverty i ended up in this course. I begin to love this profession because i do love kids, but as time pass by I feel so tired with everything and I realize Im no longer happy with what Im doing. I hate the system and I can no longer go with its flow . It’s really hard to wake up every morning, but because of my dreams for my family I need to work. My children are my inspiration in everything I do, whenever I feel so lost they’re the one I think so I can go on.

This makes me think, Do I love teaching? Why do I need to wake up early just to be at school on time?
Thoughts that leads me to this ‘You are the Motivation you need.’ Asking this questions made me realize that I do love teaching and this is what I want, to teach the little minds with my big heart. Everyday I wake up early for me not to be late and teach punctuality to my students. I am the motivation that I need. Though not all the time my students show interest on the lesson, I see to it that at the end of the day they will enjoy and see the value of what I’ve taught. Life is so easy when I don’t complain, when I see teaching as a noble work and when I show the love that my students’ need.
In order to give the best that I have I should not stop learning. And this will be my weapon to continue fulfilling my mission as an educator of heart and teacher of values, that is through an inspiration and be a model to them.

  5. “Para kanino ka ba bumabangon?” When I heard this question, I remembered my dream when I was young. My dream before is only to finished college degree. Fortunately, that childish dream becomes real. I fulfilled my dream because I was motivated in every stage of my life. Now, if someone asks me “who motivates me?” I will tell him/her logically that MY PROFESSION is my best motivator.
We all know that teaching is not an easy job. Sabi nga “once a teacher is always a teacher”. We need to study our lesson everyday so that we can deliver the lessons well to our beloved students.
My profession as a SPED teacher is quit difficulty work. I always have an extra patient on my pocket every time I entered my classrooms. Every time I saw at least little improvement to my student’s behavior and academically, I feel so satisfied and I’m so happy about it. Sometimes, some of my students hurt me physically but when they do it to me I’m become stronger, because God is always on my side and He gives me extra strength and very long long long patient in dealing with the special students. I’m so happy also that most of my students considered me as their friend. They always wanted me to be with them even free time because they are aware that I did not impose a boundary or limits to them.
I love teaching special children. Through this special learners, I’m become more motivated to refine and develop my profession as a SPED teacher. God bless!

  6. Kanino ba ako bumabangon? I remember when I was young when my father woke mu up early in the morning to take a bath with the very cold water outside our house because the water was cold as ice and then we have to walk as far as 5km every day to go to school. It’s fun yet it’s too tired. Every single day, I don’t want to missed very lesson that we had because for me that time, we obliged to learn and to develop what we have.
As this question rose again, “Kanino nga ba ako ngayon bumabangon?” , it is a simple question yet for me a difficult to answer. As a bachelor, I don’t have any obligation to care about except for myself. I am intended to live life to the fullest and no sacrifices to do. May be some says, “Who cares to others! As long as I don’t hurt someone else then it’s just all that fine”.
When I was in High school, education course was not my prioritized it’s not even on my wishlist. Until such time that maybe God called me and he want me to become an Educator. Maybe because God believes in me. I become an Educator for almost 8 years. At first, I hate teaching. I hate talking too much in front of the class. Asking my self, “Bakit ko ba sila tinuturuan? Bakit ko ba binibigay ang aking malasakit ko sa kanila? Bakit ba ako nagpapakapuyat sa kanila? And such other questions. I can’t embrace teaching. And I couldn’t find ways to love it. As years pass by, and I’m still in teaching, I realized one day that maybe this is my destiny. I am destined to teach, to impart my knowledge and skills, to help other people.
Every morning I woke up, Lesson plan, visual aids, strategies, and motivations are the things that comes first on my mind. And also, thanking God for another day that I received, thanking God for those people who supported me and still supporting me and thanking God for the knowledge and skills that I shared that makes them all very thankful.
Through my experiences, I believe that these questions are finally had the answers. There are somebody out there who needs me a lot, to make them happy, to understand them, to give care and to give the best in me.

  7. it’s really hard to motivate others it you yourself are not well motivated…
I remember when my older daughter and I had quite discussion about this matter.
I always remind her to do this, and that until time comes that she question me “why do this? when you are not doing this either”
It shock me to act so madly until I realized her point…
Its really hard to impose things that you usually forgot to do…
Motivation is not just merely motivating to do certain task but also motivating to to do task with purpose..
    What is your goal?
How can you make this goal achievable?
    Is this goal beneficial?
What will happen if you fail to deliver this motivation?
For me, my purpose in life to to make my family proud of me, as well as to make my pupils proud of me that is my I am doing my best and I motivate myself to bring the best out of me so that i can also influence others….. Positive outlook in life really helps a lot in motivating others.

  8. “It’s really nice to wake up in the morning realizing that God has given you another day to live.”

Thought sinks in, “Para kanino ka bumabangon?” That was a tough question. Eh para kanino nga ba?! One might answer: for my children, says the parents; for my students, says the teacher; for my family, says a child; for my partner, says a lover; for the people of God, says a priest; for my country, says a soldier. So one thing is evident, we wake up for someone not for something.

What about me?! Who do I wake up for?! I wake up to love and to serve the people closest to me. My loving family at home, supportive friends around, my dearest students in school, and a praying community of God. These constitute to my waking up system every day. Most of my time goes to my students in school. Each day you have to be prepared and be very patient with them. You’re facing and catering students with different attitudes and needs. You have to be very flexible and attentive with them around. In other words, you have to be at YOUR VERY BEST with the skills, but still with A BIG HEART for them. A teacher that has lots of love and care no matter how tired she may get.

So, I believe that I am created to wake up each day to live the life that God intended me to have. A life that will reflect His goodness. Amen.

But I did not expect that I would be one..hehe..This was my second choice when I entered in college pero kinuha ko pa rin ang education because I past the entrance exam here in Umak and my father wanted me to took education as my profession.. I followed him and I could say that he is right..This is exactly what I want to be..I am fond of little children and I learn to love teaching..School is my home..Sabi nila kapag napanaginipan daw ang isang bagay maaring burden ito sayo kaya kahit sa panaginip nakikita mo. Never in my life na nanaginip ako na isa akong guro na nagtuturo kahit 11 years na akong nagtuturo. In fact, this is what I love and enjoy doing for the rest of my life, kahit mahirap. I know our Almighty God is my helper..so im on the right track..jejeh!

  11. Why should I wake up? This is for me and to my family. This is my short story. When I graduated in BSED, I thought I can teach that time, But it’s not easy, I have to take procedures like taking the LET, take a review and so on…Unfortunately I was not able to pass the LET. I was frustrated that time so I have to do something just to help my parents financially. I have to set aside my teaching career. because that time I need an immediate employment. I applied in one of the biggest industrial company( not to mention anymore). I was hired as cashier, this company would not hire if you’re not a college graduate so I grab the opportunity to work. And later on I got my regularization to another company. As time goes on I got married and raised 5 children. This time there is no chance for me to take the LET because of giving birth to my children. During those times of struggling I always plan to take again the LET. and finally I pass it last 2012. I have a feeling that there is a “CALLING” that I need to pursue my profession which is teaching. I love teaching since when I was a child I dreamed of this. Now, I’m a tutor of two that I really love what I am doing. I teach them the way I teach my own children who’s always on the list of top students in their class. I’m proud to have children that struggling to study very well in school. I feel good that I am motivated to learn as MA-SPED student to impart my knowledge to my children and to my students as well. I can give whatever I have now and will continue learning.

But the question is ‘why am I doin’ this?’ For whom? What motivates me to work hard?

The first time I heard the question ‘para kanino ka bumabangon?’ is kind of hard to answer since I do not ask this question to myself in everyday of my life.

But tracing back, I asked myself ‘why I started doing this kind of work until now? Even how many times I go back to the BPO industry, I kept on coming back to teaching even though I was a born psychologist!’ Then I realized that it started when my heart was opened to these kids with special needs before I graduated in college.

There was a challenge! A big one! With my skills and heart for them, I decided way back that I’ll do this for them! I will fight for them, I will guide them, try my best to educate myself more to be able to create a good program for them, a good assessment tool for them, a good teaching strategies for them! There was a lot, a lot of loop holes that needs to focus on for the greater life experience and development of these kids.

So my answer is simple. I do this for these kids. I am just hoping and praying that there are more individuals who would develop themselves more to be able to share their expertise and love to them despite of many obstacles.

To God be all the glory!

  14. We are living in a fast-paced life, every single day we need to get up and dress up for our duties in work and in our family. Our daily lives are full of activities which demand our physical and mental energies. Due to our various endeavors and responsibilities to our families, friends and work we sometimes feel mentally exhausted, emotionally drained and physically tired. It is hard to juggle everything. Sometimes we feel to drop everything in our hands…but it has been said that no matter how you feel…you must get up, dress up and keep going, keep moving forward….but, para kanino? Para saan? Para kanino ka bumangon?

If a person understands his or her purpose in life, that person will withstand the challenges in life. Amidst struggles, he bravely stands and stays positive. He learns to love his responsibilities in work in his family, many said “love what you do and do what you love”. Having passion in what you do gives you the motivation you need either intrinsic or extrinsic. And that motivation transcends to other people. You are the motivation that you need. Being aware of your purpose gives you the drive to continue do excellent job in what you do. And this will have positive impact to others, as a teacher, to your students and I believe, to their parents as well. As a teacher, no matter how big the challenges you will not be distracted by them instead it will be a challenged to always put your best foot forward!—shery funcion

Very nice question but it makes us think when we hear it, Right?
AWAKE! ALIVE! BLESSED! GRATEFUL! LOVED! This makes me motivated.
You are the motivation that YOU need!
It is truly notable how we make our day meaningful. We all know that loving this chance living a day again is worthy enough to keep pushing ourselves to make things different from the usual. Like in our job, we foresee too many things that distract us from sharing the best of us. We sometimes get mad, losing hope, and quitting. But we still stand and face that challenge that’s await us. The reality of change must be embraced within us because we could just impart change with our students if we accept change. The choice we make is what we desire, teaching our students making their best choice makes them aware of the responsibility they need to face with that choices. The principles that we live is what we believe, letting our students live that principle they believe could make them best or could break them. Living with this makes us aware that how we live today will be the students we have in the future. So, I’m questioning myself if I’m a good motivator to myself because if I’ am, I will surely become a good motivator to others especially to my lovely students. Now, para kanino ako bumabagon? It’s for my students, my family, and my desire to face new challenge that GOD prepared for me.

    To please God not people.

Motivation is the cause telling us to do something. There are many factors that might affect our motivation. It might be ourselves “intrinsic” it might be the person in our environment “extrinsic”. But no matter what it is, we should have a constant source of motivation, we should be always motivated to do what is asked through that we may have a meaningful life we have a direction.

Of course, we will all answer first for our family. Maybe, it is fair enough to say that we wake up each day for all the people we knew, people we don’t know, somehow we met them believing that we met people for a reason and all the people who will come to our life that will share with us all kinds of emotions that we have to feel or all kinds of happy moments/problems that we will be facing.

Live simply, live happy and love generously for the people that we have to wake up each day.

In a regular public school setting, teachers keep on complaining about the low salary, lack of learning resources, troublesome learners and support from the government but we are still here, it’s not that we do not have a choice. We still wake up as early as 4 o’clock in the morning every day, to attend to the needs of our learners and all the stake holders. We may be complaining about paper works and reports to be done in school and in our Master’s study but still as we enter the school premises we our fulfilling are calling of teaching and inspiring our learners. That is why I don’t agree to some heads or others saying that some are not teaching, the moment we teachers open our mouth or even gestures and any mode of instruction that we used for our teaching pupils learn and the process of learning happened.

Of course, most of us will answer we wake up each day for our family. But is it fair enough to say that we must wake for all the people who knew us, people who does not know us but became part of our journey in our everyday activity for the people who is the reason on why do we need to wake up each day of our lives that the Good Lord is giving us.
We don’t meet people by accidents there is always a reason why do we have the chance to meet them.

The same way that a regular public school teacher who keeps on complaining loads of paper works and low salary but still they manage to wake up as early as 4 o’clock in the morning to go to school. And as soon as that teacher enters the school premises they wake up everyday to impart knowledge and inspire learners.

  21. 1.4 Motivation, Discipline & Guidance

Sa kabila ng trials in life, the cross that we are carrying believe in HIM, kahit gaano kabigat ang mga problema gagaan din yan. And don’t forget to thanks for the graces He gave. Sabi nga “kung ikaw ay may pagpupursige makakamit mo sa hinaba haba man ng panahon” the rest are the history. 
It shows how we communicate to others, respect and be respected, love, caring and most of all understanding to the uniqueness of others (individual differences).

    2. Considering the Sociological Foundations/Theories [Social Stratifications/Groups/Agencies for Education, and some theories on Human Relations & Leadership], How could we address the SOCIAL PROBLEMS portrayed in Joey Velasco’s “Sa Kambas ng Lipunan”/”On the Canvas of Society”: [pls watch the video]

Sa bawat mukha ng mga yagit na bata, it shows how the society reflect of what we are and who you are. Ginawa ba nilang one day millioner. Now a days, we experience social problems, rape, ride in tandem, graft and corruption, peace in order in Mindanao, akyat bahay victims, drugs, human trafficking, car napping and many problems that the society need to resolve. Bilang mag-aaral, guro, member of society should we solve the problems? Does a solution to one problem create yet other problems.

I agree with this statement, being a teacher is my passion. This is my dream since I was in elementary. By teaching my student and touching their minds make me feel productive and worthy. That every single day that God has been given to me. There’s always fulfillment. I remember, one of the talks in the feast which the community I involve. It was striking when our preacher asked about the Jar of Oil could we offer to God which he meant was the gifts we have. That time, I wasn’t teaching and I told God that my Jar of Oil is to teach again which he fulfilled and answered. Nevertheless, every day of my life since I’ve been starting teaching offers a quality of education despite of inadequacy of the center or institution. It is really true once you choose a job that you love regardless of inadequacy of the place as long as the love is there. Everything goes well although it’s hard but through God nothing is impossible.

True indeed. I had experienced working in an office. And this experience ended me to a boring workload though I enjoyed my first year of work because I learned something. Apparently, this experience would not motivated me to stay longer because my heart is called to teach children. However, as I observe, most of my co-officemates become irritably because I sensed that they are not love what they do. There was an instance that my co-officemate was not an honest about his work. This is proof that working that you don’t love is working against a wall.

What could have Steven Covey meant when he said “There are three constants in life: change, choice, principles.”? … and what does this image depict in relation to Learning & Motivation

I always say to my student that life is a choice. The actions that they did when they were outside world which I mean when they were in the family was the product of their choice. My students are rescued by DSWD, and I was telling them that they are staying in the institution because they have given a chance to change. Especially those who have cases SE (sexually exploited) and CICL. These changes bring them to choose what principles they may build on themselves. How do they decide principle? By encouraging and motivating them that life is full of hope. Likewise, life says CHANGE for betterment, CHOOSE for succession, and create PRINCIPLES for your dreams.

  24. “You are the motivation that you need!”

Morning, is a moment when God reminds me that I have a mission to do. An extraordinary job that requires compassionate heart, strength of body and focus mind. Following God’s footstep is not easy at all, but he put something within us that we keep on pushing forward in every challenging task we face. We call it motivation. Motivation is a gift that we use to satisfy our needs and to arrive to specific day agendas. It may lead to success, happiness and rewards in our lives. Can we live without motivation? How the motivations become a key in our personal and social victory? Why we still motivated in every failure we experience?

Motivation falls in two respective places, the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic defines our desire to do things based on reward we get from outside. We are motivated to work because we can buy our necessities in money/salary we get. While intrinsic pronounced our deep desire to do things based on reward we get from within. For instance we have the helper type of personality; we tend to help other people to satisfy our deep needs, giving is natural for us without any request from others. We help automatically. Therefore, our focus of attention drives either from internal or external stimulus. They are both important for me, no way to divide time in two different colours.

Now, what really motivates me? How do I get motivated? In my situation, my focus of attention pulls me in “helping”. I have my own impulses that lead me helping others and helping myself. I’m motivated to do things that something aligns in helping other people that seems more extrinsic. Extrinsic in a sense I do and a complete job requires for other people that may satisfy my needs. Intrinsic comes when I feel happy in what I’m doing, it’s my gasoline to continue what I started.

Helping others is very important for me, but I think giving/helping myself first thing I need to look at. In the first place I need to satisfy my personal needs before I offer my help to others. It’s a like a bank account, I need to deposit more to myself before I withdraw something to others. These two attentions give impact in my daily agendas; one-on-one relationship, social relationship and self relationship.

I want to rephrase the question of what motivates me to WHO I WANT TO BE? A question that keeps me informed in dealing my daily tasks and put some energy to every exciting possible result. As I learned to Stephen Covey, “begin with your end mind”. Can you guess what motivates me?

Now I challenge you to answer this question. What do you I think who I want to be? That is my motivation.

  32. What motivates me everyday?? Who motivates me come to school to see my pupils? The same as the question of the Lord to us, why should I wake u up in the morning? Why should i need to give you another day to live? Now,.. I am asking myself, to whom i am serving for? There are reasons why we should always be thankful each day. God’s perfect plan for my life would be the reason why i woke up each day with kagalakan sa puso. HE DESIGNED MY LIFE WITH A PURPOSE. “Nilagay Niya ako sa pagtuturo para may dahilan ako pra maging masaya at maging excited sa mga araw na ibibigay niya.” the joy of the Lord is my strength. He turned my pagod into joy. God give me compassionate heart and passion in teaching. He gives me wisdom first of all so that i could understand His perfect will for my life.

He gives joy to my heart and makes me excited to see my students everyday by giving me innovative ways of teaching so that my students wil always be excited to see me as well.  God makes me positive in and out and beautiful each day so that i could also motivate my students everyday. tThis may be the reso why God put me in teaching profession, He wants me to be a blessing to my students and He wants to use eme as an instrument  to tell my students How great, amzing, good , awesome (God’s character) our God is. The motivation to myself is to fulfill God’s purpose to my life, my family, my students, my work and to be a blessing to others. It is all  because of God’s unconditional love for us why we have to fulfill our mission here on our existence in Earth. From this question, reminds me of my favorite scripture in the bible “Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart :). ”

  34. I’ve been blessed to be an adviser of Grade 7, last section. My patience and dedication for work have been tested. Just recently, I was moved by the question of my classmate/colleague, “Para kanino ka bumabangon?” and the one that popped up in my mind is “Euone” Euone is a one of a kind/unique pupil that really needs full attention and he really made my day. From the start of the school, he’s been one of my motivation, together with my other pupils that indeed a blessing for God that teaches me love and be more thankful of the chance to me by God to inspire a kid like Euone. I accept the challenge to have more “Euone’s” in the future.

  35. Para kanino ka bumabangon? I’m a family oriented person, that is why when I heard this question, I instantly thought about them. I want the best for them, especially for my parents. Giving back the things they did to us is the greatest thing we, as children could do to our parents. Aside from my family, I am motivated to work because of my little, cute and bright students. I want to help them achieve and succeed in life even if they have a disability. Disability is never a hindrance. “People can do whatever they want if they just set their heart to it, and just never give up, and just go out there and do it.”

  36. I believe that motivation works by this simple rule: the key is not to know the solution to your problem, but to search for it. In other words, in motivation is more important the drive to search what ever you need, than the reason for your need, because if you know the reason for your need, then you don’t need to search, and then you do nothing. The key is in creating movement, doing, this is what creates change, and ultimately what matters, and not so much the origin of the need or the reason. I conclude that what is important is not what motivates you, what makes the difference is the search, the quest for solving your needs, this is the fundamental game changer. We all have needs, we all what to be happy, the search for the solution to our problems is what will make an impact in our lives, the search IS the transformation agent of change in our lives, the search for answers to our needs.

I am motivated by my parents, my students,my friends and the people who keep on believing in me. They’re my motivation/inspiration that is why I keep on going.:)
